Who can resist Bill Nelson’s guitar playing? Forget about the tinny drum machine backing and well everything else really and gorge on some trademark luscious guitar.
There are beauties on here, The Ecstatic Transfiguration of the Great Northern Twang Magus being one such delectation. Bill’s own description of the work “A gleaming guitar melodic soundscape.” is bang on the money. Tracks like An Interval and the glorious sustain on Deep Sky showcase his unique technique.
My Giddy Levitation almost channels the ethereal Cocteau Twins shimmering beauty and Night Boats Pass Beneath The Stars has a Vini Reilly feel to it. This was originally meant to be part of a double CD set with the Magnetic Travels album (Imaginarium?). There are so many digital only releases on Bill’s bandcamp pages. I hope they’ll become a vinyl box set at some point for those of us who don’t do digital.
